Livat’s Clothes Mending Circle Workshop
September 22, 2023
King Street’s shopping centre Livat is going green this autumn with a number of events centering on repairing and recycling.
If you have ever fancied giving upcycling a go, now’s your chance with a free competition called That's a Rubbish Idea!
Livat has teamed up with Library of Things, IKEA and W12 Centre’s Petit Miracles to offer creative local people the chance to win prizes and learn the skills needed to start upcycling furniture.
Livat says, “ Upcycling is a great way to save money, create something truly unique and importantly, help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill by re-loving a piece of discarded furniture.”
There are three ways to get involved. Enter the giveaway online to win one of 50 vouchers to get 30% off at the IKEA Re-use and Re-shop or a free upcycling workshop worth £65 at Petit Miracles.
By signing up to the giveaway, you can also save a spot at a free upcycling session, where you can learn new skills and DIY tips.
The sessions are at:
IKEA Hammersmith, September 27
Livat Hammersmith, October 14
If you have already upcycled a piece of furniture and are proud of the result, you can submit your project for the chance to win £200 to spend at IKEA or £100 if you are one of four runners up.
Find out more and submit your project here.
For those wanting to give their garments a new lease of life, Livat’s Clothes Mending Circle Workshops are continuing through the autumn from from 1pm to 4pm on the following Saturdays:
October 14
November 11
December 9
There is need to book, just drop in with one item of clothing to practise with, but if you prefer you can secure your free space by making a booking here.
West Central London Fixers’ Electronic Repair Parties are also continuing this autumn, with local people invited to bring along low or broken electronic devices to Livat Hammersmith, and have them fixed for free by West Central London Fixers.
The group is a community interest company which brings together volunteer repairers and the community to fix their electronics free of charge. The events are open to volunteer learner fixers so are not only beneficial to the environment, but are educational as well.
The West Central London Fixers will be at Livat for the following dates:
September 29
October 23
November 27
There will then be a break over Christmas but the fixers will be back in 2024.
Each person can bring one item and can book a 40 minute timeslot here.
Livat Community Garden, in Ashcroft Square outside Livat’s first floor also has the last of the current sessions coming up, with all welcome regardless of their gardening skills.
The sessions are from 10.30am till 1pm on:
September 28 - harvest vegetables and herbs and weed and water the beds
October 7 - take cuttings
October 12 - remove veg and herb plants and replace with bedding perennials
