100 strangers to attend Kindred community dinner
October 7, 2024
Kindred, the former private members’ club now a community space on Queen Caroline Street in Hammersmith is offering a diverse programme of events for Black History month.
This October, the venue which offers private events, weekday coworking and casual dining, will be hosting talks, dinners and performances that showcase black culture and communities living in West London and beyond.
Kindred founder Anna Anderson said, “A part of Kindred’s mission has always been to connect people across traditional points of difference. Not with age groups and demographics and industries, but instead, with core values: those who want to meet and be connected with others, in a world that seems intent on pulling us apart. For us at Kindred, Black History Month is a time to shine a light on some of the incredible partners and community members we are lucky to collaborate with all year round, as well as celebrating the rich diversity of our city that makes it such an amazing place to live and work.”
Highlights of Kindred’s cultural programme include:
Monday 7 October: Kindred’s Community Dinner
Kindred will be partnering with their friends at Strangers in the City, alongside St. Best Jamaican Cuisine who will be designing the menu and bringing the flavour of authentic Caribbean cuisine.
Kindred’s community dinners host 100 strangers on two long tables (with some ice-breaker games to help people get to know each other) and serve a shared feast. Guests are encouraged to attend solo, to serve one another before they serve themselves, put their phones away, and concentrate on being in the moment. Best of all, the dinner is completely free to attend, with the option to pay it forward to their official charity partner, the West London based Nourish Hub.
Founders Chante and Zainab of Strangers in the City produce events that provide a safe and neutral space for participants to step out of their comfort zones and connect with others. Chanté Joseph is a culture writer, content and story producer, and an award-winning podcaster of The Guardian’s Pop Culture Podcast and host of Channel 4’s How Not to Be Racist, and Zainab Kwaw-Swanzy; an award-winning Senior Product Manager with a passion for inclusion and innovation, a founding member of the trailblazing online publication platform gal-dem, and a TechWomen100 2023 winner.
