Pub chain Wetherspoons has closed one of its pubs in Hammersmith at short notice.

Customers at the Plough and Harrow on King Street were told a few days ago that it was to shut on Sunday 1 June. They were directed to the company’s other pub in the town centre, the William Morris.

The Plough and Harrow pub on King Street in Hammersmith has appeared on a list of 32 pubs which Wetherspoons was planning to sell off in November 2022 with CBRE and Savills appointed to handle the sales. It is not known at this stage if a buyer has been found.

The announcement of the planned sales came soon after the company’s biggest ever losses were revealed but, since then, Wetherspoons has seen a robust recovery and a return to profitability raising hopes that some of the planned sales might not happen. It started paying dividends again last year.

It is believed that there has been a pub of the same name at this site since 1419. A centuries old pub, which had this year displayed as the date of its establishment, was demolished in 1903 and then replaced again in the sixties with the current building.
