Town Hall event to encourage senior citizens to recycle
Hundreds of residents will flock to Hammersmith town hall on Friday 6 October for the eighth annual 'time of your life' event. And this year's celebrations, which are aimed at residents aged 50 plus, are going green.
This year's (green) line-up includes: recycling workshops, rickshaw rides around King Street and a fashion show with entirely recycled clothes.
Local resident Pat Oldman, 80, was involved in planning this year's event and says, "A lot of younger people don't realise how green older people can be. We really care about the environment and want people to stop polluting the planet. That's why time of your life is going green, I recycle as do a lot of my friends so as well as all the usual fun this year's event will have a very serious green message."
The popular event attracted more than 700 visitors last year and aims to promote the environmentally friendly message as well as healthier, active ageing through a host of fun activities.
Hammersmith & Fulham mayor, Cllr Minnie Scott Russell, said, "By helping us to plan and run the event, older people themselves make sure that what is on offer is what people want, providing vital information in a fun, relaxed and informal way."
The fun begins at 10.30am and runs until 4.00pm and there will be the usual mix of vibrant entertainment and refreshments on offer all day. Visitors can explore a range of information stalls from housing to health, to home safety and the internet. And there are a number of new activities planned this year including cycling (Dr Bike's surgery) and dance.
The Mayor concludes, "I would encourage everyone aged 50+ in the borough to come along, enjoy themselves, and go green!"
