Hammersmith Station Sign Redesign Aims To Bring Happiness
Rainbow makeover celebrates LGBTQ+ community

Hammersmith tube station has a new look after local artist Dan Vo redesigned the station’s sign to a feature a rainbow with the word ‘HAPPINESS’.
Dan’s new-look sign is one of 10 to have been redesigned across the tube network to celebrate London’s LGBTQ+ community. The Transport for London roundels include positive messages and vibrant colours, reflecting their creators and the capital’s LGBTQ+ community.
Each roundel’s location was chosen by its creator. Dan, an educator in LGBT+ history who works in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Gunnersbury Park Museum and the Sotheby’s Institute of Art, chose Hammersmith as he has lived in the borough for almost a decade and wanted to highlight the diversity found across H&F.

He said, “Whether you’re at Westfield, down by the river, or at one of the three theatres where recent plays have so creatively shown LGBTQ+ lives, Hammersmith & Fulham is clearly a place for everyone.”
His roundel combines the Pride flags with familiar TfL moquette (the design of the recognisable TfL seat fabric) – and the colours for Intersex Pride, Bi Pride and Trans Pride can all be found within it.
“I wanted people to be able to say they’d found happiness on their way to work, or their journey home,” Dan added.
“As a migrant who found such an accepting and inclusive home in H&F it was really important to me that other migrants might also be able to find happiness on their journey.”
