It is more than just an interaction between film and theatre. It aims to be a film on stage, a live film.

The proposal is for a production that explores the differences between two different media, theatre and film, and combines them to make a 'live film'. Even the lighting is by a cinematographer, Brian Tufano, who worked on Trainspotting and Shallow Grave.

Starring Daniela Nardini, Cue Deadly: A Live Film Project is at the Riverside until December 6th. The directors Dan Hine and Kirsty Housley are the winners of The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award 2003.

The award aims to help the development of emerging practitioners in the field of experimental theatre, favouring for bold, innovative and challenging projects, and winners have a three week run at the Riverside.

Dan Hine and Kirsty Housley's proposal, translating film noir into theatre, challenges established ideas with a new visual vocabulary for the stage. How? Several tricks and techniques have been used to make the play seems more like a movie: overhead mirrors and movable scenery allow the public to view the show as if from camera angles and custom-built steel frames allow actors to step through as if they were moving from scene to scene.

By the award-winning crime writer Nicholas Blincoe, Cue Deadly is set in a busy road in London, where a motorbike rider fires a single shot and a man falls to the ground. When a killer is offered a suspect contract, his curiosity draws him dangerously close to his victim, with fatal consequences.
