Summer extravangza of music and dance

A week of performances from the borough's talented youths

A week of music and dance performances – ranging from school bands and the borough youth orchestra to some of the most exciting local dance groups – kicked off at the Lyric Hammersmith on Tuesday, 20 June.

The annual Performing Arts Week began with a showcase of the borough’s school bands, choirs, dance groups and orchestras as well as the thriving music groups run by Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s music service.

The week culminates on Friday 23rd June with Lyrical Dance, celebrating the diversity of dance in west London, and Dance Challenge, featuring performances by schools who have participated in the series of dance workshops for local pupils funded by John Lyon’s Charity.

Both dance events have been organised by the council’s arts development team.

The borough’s mayor, Cllr Minnie Scott Russell, who attended the Dance Challenge on Friday, said “This week is a great opportunity for the talented people who live, work or go to school in Hammersmith & Fulham to perform in a professional theatre. It is also a testament to the excellent work being carried out by our music service and arts development team in encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take to the stage.

I would like to thank the Lyric Hammersmith for providing a top class venue and for the other valuable work they do in supporting the arts in schools and the wider community.”
