A Special Film Screening and Personal Appearance by John Minihan

To mark the closing of The Samuel Beckett Centenary year, Hammersmith Irish Centre will screen David Bickley’s powerful documentary film, ‘The Man Who Shot Beckett’ a profile of Irish Photographer John Minihan.

John Minihan is probably the most important Irish photographer alive today. His subjects include, Francis Bacon, John Hurt, Princess Diana, William Burroughs, Van Morrison, Chuck Berry, Peter Sellars and Jackie Kennedy... His acclaimed pictures of a ‘Wake’ in County Athy, and his series of images of the Nobel Laureate Samuel Beckett has brought Minihan world-wide acclaim.

This powerful documentary film charts Minihan’s remarkable artistic journey. It explores his personal and professional relationship with Samuel Beckett and gives an intimate glimpse of his photography, which is considered to be one of the twentieth century’s greatest photographic bodies of work.

The film features interviews with actor Stephen Rae, artist Maggie Hambling and Beckett’s former publisher John Calder.

John Minihan will be present to introduce the film and he will also be selling and signing copies of his new book ‘Samuel Beckett Centenury Shadows’. (published by Hale UK 2006 ) The evening will provide a rare opportunity to meet the man.
