Launching his new Poetry Collection ‘The Laughter Of Mothers'

Paul Durcan, Ireland 's professor of poetry, is one of Ireland 's greatest living poets. A former winner of ‘The Whitbread Poetry Award, he had had published over 20 collections and is famed for his brilliant live Poetry Performances.

He comes to Centre comes to launch his powerful new collection, The Laughter Of Mothers a poignant tribute says Durcan to ‘ the first woman I ever knew'… “ Thank you, O golden mother, / For giving me a life,”

Sean O Casey - Under A Coloured Cap'

Director Shivaun O Casey 90mins

This powerful documentary explores the life and work of the great Irish playwright. Born in 1880 Sean O Casey lived through troubled and turbulent times in Ireland and wrote three major plays, Shadow Of A Gunman, Juno and The Paycock and The Plough and The Stars, which now stand as 3 of the greatest plays of the Twentieth Century. Directed and told by his daughter Shivaun, O Casey is revealed as a diverse and innovative artists, who was way ahead of his time. We are hopeful that Shivaun O Casey will be able to attend this screening.

Born in Castlebar County Mayo, Jonathan O Dea came to live in London at the age of 12. Through his abstract paintings, O'Dea expresses and articulates a distinct inner journey, the migrants search for a landscape where he can settle and an inner longing for the elements of a spiritual terrain. ‘ O'Dea's paintings are brave forces; awe inspiring, they immediately elevate and evoke'. Jonathan O'Dea is a craftsman in his field, and certainly one of the most powerful and inspirational Contemporary Irish artists living in London today.

O'Dea studied Art and Design at St Martin 's and he attained a Degree in Irish Studies and History from The London Metropolitan University. Since 2002 O'Dea has had over 40 exhibitions. He received nominations for The Turner Prize in 2006.

The Streets of London Watercolours Drawings Prints

An exhibition about Irish life in London . This is Canavan's third show at the Irish Cultural Centre. He's received acclaim for his work on both sides of the Irish sea . Canavan paints about ' Ireland 's lost generation', the men and women who came to Britain  from rural  Ireland to make a living, long before the Celtic Tiger. His wry take on that emigration experience brings back memories of an age of ‘navvying' and nursing, dance halls and bedsits, the postal-order and the early-morning 'Start', a way of life that is passing into history.
