Frantic Assembly return to The Lyric
Following the extraordinary success of Dirty Wonderland in the 2005 Brighton Festival, Frantic Assembly is delighted to announce its first new production in over a year. pool (no water), is a collaboration between the hugely acclaimed writer Mark Ravenhill and Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett of Frantic Assembly - fast becoming one of the most in demand director / movement director teams in the UK.
A famous artist invites her old friends out to her luxurious new home and, for one night only, the group is back together again. However, celebrations come to an abrupt end when the host suffers an horrific accident. As the victim lies in a coma an almost unthinkable plan starts to take shape: could her suffering be their next work of art? The group is ecstatic in its new found project until things slip out of their control and, to the surprise of all, the patient awakes.
Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett recently worked as movement directors on the National Theatre’s crowd-pleasing production of Market Boy, and have both worked on projects for the newly launched National Theatre of Scotland. Frantic Assembly, the company they founded over 10 years ago, made a spectacular start to its second decade with the massively ambitious and enormously successful site-specific creation Dirty Wonderland.
The production played to sell-out crowds in the 2005 Brighton Festival, winning a collection of glowing reviews from press, industry and public alike. The company has since been developing plans for a three-year artistic programme, which begins with pool (no water) by Mark Ravenhill. This collaboration has developed from a series of practical workshops at the National Theatre Studio and BAC.
Since his explosive arrival in 1996 with Shopping and Fucking, Mark has been one of the UK’s most talked about writers. His most recent works Citizenship and The Cut were performed at the National Theatre and The Donmar Warehouse respectively.
The production will be designed by Linbury Prize Winner Miriam Buether. Her recent work includes After The End (for Paines Plough at the Traverse and Bush Theatre), and The Death of Klinghoffer (for Scottish Opera at the Edinburgh International Festival).
Continuing Frantic Assembly’s tradition for collaborating with contemporary recording artists, including Lamb and Goldfrapp, pool (no water) will feature a soundtrack by Imogen Heap. Imogen’s music has featured in TV series The OC and in the film The Chronicles of Narnia. She has recently completed a tour of the UK and Europe, and will be performing at The Roundhouse in London immediately before the London dates of pool (no water).
