'Unstageable’ epic adventure at The Lyric
From the creators of the hits Jason and the Argonauts, Ben-Hur and World Cup 1966, beggarsbelief present another ‘unstageable’ epic adventure with a high-octane mix of history and legend for adults and children.
A baby named George is born with curious birthmarks then mysteriously vanishes into thin air. This strange boy is possessed of miraculous powers and has one simple conviction: he must kill a dragon. So begins a quest that takes him to the extremities of the known world. A story about family loyalties, faith and national identity, the show weaves together live music, circus and fire -juggling.
Carl Heap was the founding Artistic Director of the influential and popular touring company The Medieval Players. He has co-written (with Tom Morris) and directed Ben-Hur, Jason and the Argonauts and World Cup Final 1966 as well as working with the National Theatre’s Education Department, directing his own adaptations of Shakespeare’s Pericles and Romeo and Juliet. He is currently developing a new play, Gunfight at the OK Corral for production this year.
Tom Morris, former Artistic Director of BAC, is now based at the Royal National Theatre as Associate Director. Tom produced and developed Jerry Springer the Opera at BAC and adapted The Wooden Frock and Nights at the Circus with Emma Rice for Kneehigh Theatre.
