Friends of the Earth to present basic facts about climate change
No, not the gap between the train and the platform but between words and actions! The Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Local Agenda 21 Forum is holding an event on the national One World Week (OWW) theme of 'Mind the Gap', looking at the topical issues of climate change and global trade justice.
It will take place on Wednesday 25 October, 7 for 7.30pm to 9.15pm, at the H&F Visitor Information Centre, 20 Broadway Shopping Centre.
H&F Friends of the Earth will give a presentation on the basic facts about climate change and its causes, the global implications, including the effects on developing countries least able to cope, and how we can, as individuals, change our lifestyles to reduce the impact.
The H&F Fairtrade steering group will outline how the borough achieved its Fairtrade status and what local residents can do to fill the gaps in its records of stockists and users of products carrying the FAIRTRADE Mark. It will also suggest why, after last year's 'Make Poverty History' campaign, poor countries are still facing trade rules that are rigged against them and what steps can be taken to help bridge the gap between rich and poor.
Matt Dunckley, Chair of the Local Agenda 21 Forum, says "One World Week offers a golden opportunity to think globally and act locallly. Sustainable development is the key to improving the quality of life for us all in the 21st century".
