Dublin By Lamplight at Riverside Studios

Winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Best Ensemble comes to Hammersmith

The Uk tour of the award-winning production Dublin By Lamplight opens at Riverside Studios on April 17 for three weeks.

Winner of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Best Ensemble 2005 in The Stage Awards for Acting Excellence, Dublin By Lamplight is presented by Ireland’s celebrated physical theatre company, The Corn Exchange, in their highly charged and hugely entertaining style of Commedia dell’Arte.

Amidst the filth and the fury of Dublin in 1904, the theatrical event of the century is about to explode. Dublin By Lamplight centres around six hapless theatre idealists whose destinies are grotesquely thwarted during the course of the play; a strange and lurid world where fading stars, rebels, whores and romantics are thrown together in a web of intrigue.

‘A magical combination of manic energy and rigorous control…an outstanding feat of collaboration’ The Irish Times

Written by Michael West, in collaboration with the company, directed by Corn Exchange Artistic Director and founder Annie Ryan and featuring live improvised music, Dublin By Lamplight is a whirlwind of irreverent comedy, melodrama and theatrical invention.

Playing over 30 characters, the cast of six are: Karen Egan, Louis Lovett, Janet Moran, Tadhg Murphy, Tom Murphy and Paul Reid. Music is composed by Conor Linehan and performed by Danny Sheridan. Set design by Kris Stone, lighting design by Matt Frey and costume design by Sinead Cuthbert.
