Young at Art

Children's artwork to go on show across the borough

A herd of papier maché elephants, model Buddhas, collages, paintings, digital artwork, colourful banners and drawings will all go on display in a showcase of art by children and young people at 16 venues across Hammersmith & Fulham.

The annual Art by Young People exhibition, which runs until 10 July, will be launched by the mayor, Cllr Minnie Scott Russell, on Monday 12th June.

Organised by the council's arts development team, the exhibition features work by children and young people from local nursery, primary and secondary schools, as well as three-dimensional artwork by local primary pupils made in collaboration with
professional artists from ACAVA (the Association for cultural Advancement through Visual Art)
as part of the borough's Sculptors in Schools project.

Digital artwork by children and young people will be displayed on plasma screens in local libraries and Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre. Pupils from Henry Compton School have designed a giant banner to hang in the Kings Mall shopping centre. A wide range of artwork will be on show at all four of the borough's main shopping centres as well as the Glass Box exhibition space outside Hammersmith Town Hall, Cineworld cinema, in King Street, Hammersmith, and several leading shops in Hammersmith & Fulham.

The borough's mayor, Cllr Minnie Scott Russell, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with local schools, artists' organisations and businesses to enable this marvellous exhibition to take place. This is a great chance to celebrate the creativity and achievements of young people of all ages and abilities throughout the borough. I would like to thank all the organisations who have given us their support."
