Ziggy Stardust is returning to Hammersmith’s Apollo Theatre, 50 years to the day after his final performance in the venue.
On July 3, 1973, David Bowie “retired” Ziggy, his most celebrated alter-ego, in front of 5,000 fans on stage at London's Hammersmith Odeon.
On July 3, 2023, Ziggy will be back on that same stage for one night only, when the Eventim Apollo (which was of course formerly Hammersmith Odeon) hosts the global premiere of the digitally restored Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars: The Motion Picture.
The film screening will be preceded by an on-stage conversation with Bowie collaborators and contemporary musicians who will discuss the original show's legacy and Ziggy's lasting impact.
The show was one of the most iconic performances in the history of modern music, with Bowie’s decision to retire his beloved rockstar persona and to dissolve The Spiders From Mars coming as a shock to his fans - and to the band!

That final performance in Hammersmith was captured on film by award-winning director DA Pennebaker and released under the title of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture.
Now a new extended version of the film features the full uncut performance, featuring seldom seen scenes with the legendary guitar player Jeff Beck, including his high-octane performance on Bowie's 1972 hit, The Jean Genie.
The anniversary edition of the film also shows David preparing for the performance in his dressing room before the show.
Following the premiere, the film will be shown in over 1,000 cinemas throughout July, with further screenings taking place across the world.
Tickets for Ziggy Stardust; The Global Premiere are now available, along with further information here or direct from the Apollo.
