Exclusion order scheme at the Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre

Listening to public complaints about Antisocial Behaviour has led to the introduction of a new Exclusion Order scheme at Hammersmith Broadway designed to discourage persistent troublemakers from hanging round in the centre, and to make it more pleasant for commuters and shoppers.

The scheme is a co-operation between TFL London Buses, The Broadway Shopping Centre Management and the local police including the MET and Transport OCU in response to complaints by the local community and commuters who use the centre regularly. They had realised that they shared many problems and the only way to effectively deal with these issues was to work together to ensure that anti social behaviour in any part of the Broadway led to the offender being excluded from the entire centre and therefore unable to re-offend elsewhere.

Centre Manager Joanna Hall says: "By working together we have so much more power to stamp out any form of Anti Social Behaviour that occurs in any part of the Broadway Centre against any of the occupiers of the centre, we hope that the threat of being Excluded is enough to discourage Antisocial Behaviour within the centre. By removing these people the centre should be a much less intimidating and more pleasant for the visitor."

Inspector Nick Roach Transport OCU: "We fully support this excellent initiative working in partnership with London Buses and Local Businesses for the people of Hammersmith and Fulham Borough. It is in the interest of us all to make Hammersmith Broadway and Bus station a safer place for the public to use and travel through. Officers will police the Broadway in a positive proactive manner targeting those individuals who are responsible for incidents involving anti social behaviour"

Retailers within the centre have welcomed the opportunity to act unanimously to ensure that shop lifters are banned from all stores not just their own. They feel that this additional leverage should deter people from shop lifting within the centre and mean that staff are able to concentrate on providing excellent customer service instead of dealing with anti social individuals.

Hammersmith Broadway Exclusion Policy in summary:
· Anyone caught participating in / initiating any form of antisocial behaviour can be banned.
· The Exclusion Order encompasses the Bus Station, Shopping Centre and all other occupiers of the centre
· The Exclusion Order can be issued by Staff from the Bus Station, Centre or the Police
· Once banned if the person enters the scheme they will be trespassing and liable to prosecution.
· Anyone banned will be photographed and photos of Excluded Persons will be distributed to all of the schemes participators.
