Let's make HF a Fairtrade borough

Meetings throughout September.

Can you or a colleague join us for our first meeting to plan how we can make our Borough a Fairtrade borough? Here's why it's important and how you can help.
Why should we support Fairtrade?

By agreeing to buy foodstuffs and other goods from producers in third world countries on Fairtrade terms, we are helping them build healthy, sustainable communities.

It's only fair! For more information, go to Fairtade web site or call 020 7405 5942.

How do we know it's Fairtrade?
The long-established Fairtrade Foundation promotes the FAIRTRADE Mark, the only independent consumer label that guarantees a better deal for these producers. This covers 250 products from more than 100 companies. Now, the programme is extending to grant Fairtrade status to towns and boroughs. London needs 17 boroughs to qualify. Ours should be one!

How do we qualify?
Our Council must resolve to support Fairtrade, serve Fairtrade coffee and tea at meetings and in its offices; ensure that Fairtrade products are widely available in shops and cafés in the borough (based on the borough's population, we must find 33 retail outlets and 17 catering outlets); encourage the use of Fairtrade products in local workplaces and by community organisations such as schools and religious groups.

So let's get organised
The Council has asked the Local Agenda 21 Forum to form a group to plan the next steps and we invite local people to join us at an introductory meeting. Interested? Please e-mail our co-ordinator, Mary Corrall at maryfairtrade@yahoo.co.uk or complete and return the form below.

Our first target date
The group will agree an outline plan and then publish a promotional leaflet for distribution during One World Week, 17-24 October. Let's get to work!
