Following a request by the Field Road Tenants & Residents Association, Greg Hands MP toured the Field Road Estate, W6, where he saw first hand the problems being faced by tenants and residents.
During the tour, Greg was accompanied by senior Council Officers and has pledged to lobby for improvements to be made fast.
The main problems were:
The condition of paving around the estate, which is badly broken in many parts, with some slabs protruding up to one and a half inches from the ground. This makes walking around the estate very dangerous, particularly for the elderly and those who have difficulty walking. Greg wants to see the paving fixed and re-laid where necessary to make the walkways safe again.
An un-drained cess pool, which is full of rubbish and even a discarded bike. This is causing an unpleasant smell, has become a breeding ground for insects and bugs and there is potentially a great danger of a child drowning. Greg wants to see the pool drained and the area cleaned-up.
Anti-social behaviour. Tenants and residents are being frequently disturbed and intimidated by youths on bikes and mopeds coming onto the estate and causing havoc. Greg is examining a solution which would see kissing gates installed around the perimeter to stop the easy access for such bikes.
Commenting, Greg said: “I was surprised at just how bad some of the problems have become on the Field Road estate and want to see rapid action from the Council to fix the problems. It is about time the Council started to look after estates such as Field Road much better!”
