Don't get a fine during the Bank Holiday

With another bank holiday fast approaching, Hammersmith & Fulham is urging all drivers in the borough to read the parking signs or risk a fine.

Councillor Michael Cartwright, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:

"Many residents contact the council before and after Bank Holidays to ask where and when they can park legally, whether yellow lines apply on bank holidays, and when they need to pay and display. Congestion, delays and accidents occur regardless of bank holidays and therefore the council will issue tickets if people park where they should not do so. We hope the brief guide below will help everyone to enjoy their bank holiday without being troubled by any nagging questions about whether they are risking a fine."

The same rules apply for most yellow lines on Bank Holidays as at all other times and they will be enforced.

• Double yellow lines
You must not park on double yellow lines at any time, including bank holidays.

• Single yellow lines
Signs detailing restrictions for single yellow lines should be observed on Bank Holidays. If a single yellow line applies (is enforced) on a Monday then this will include Bank Holiday Monday.

e.g. a yellow line adjacent to this sign will apply on a Bank Holiday Monday

If there is no sign relating to a single yellow line, this means the line only applies when the controlled parking zone is in force. These yellow lines do not apply on Bank Holidays.

• Pay and Display

There is no charge for Pay and display bays on a Bank Holiday Monday.

• Other Bays

On bank holidays parking restrictions still apply to other special categories of bays such as doctors’ bays and disabled persons’ bays
