Free attractions on Sunday @ Fulham Island.

Fulham Island (Jerdan Place and Farm Lane) businesses are inviting residents and visitors to enjoy free attractions ranging from music and street theatre to a farmers’ market and cookery demonstrations from 10am – 6pm on Sunday, 5 September. The area is also the perfect place to watch the North Fulham Carnival parade go by.

The event, which is supported by Hammersmith & Fulham Council, kicks off at 10am when the farmers’ market opens with a great line-up of producers selling everything from free range meats to organic bread, cakes and pastries as well as cheeses, yoghurts, dips and chutneys. There will also be cookery demonstrations and tasters dished up by the Guild of Cookery Writers with a feast of ingredients from Planet Organic.

Live music starts at 12noon when ZHL String Ensemble will delight passers-by with their repertoire of classical music with humour. They will be followed by the King Mindlin Duo, who will perform a mixture of jazz and bossa nova and the Frank Griffith Five, who will play a mixture of swing and mainstream jazz standards with contemporary wit and aplomb.

Music throughout the day is complemented by street entertainment from Circa Rum Bab Ba’s Alien Stilt Walkers (see photo – emailed) and Tatty and Scruffy - two very funny clowns. For children there will also be a bouncy castle in St John’s Church grounds, a competition and the Heart 106FM Ground Patrol giving away balloons and freebies.

All the attractions will be on Fulham Island, which will be pedestrian-friendly all day, as part of the London-wide Good Going campaign to encourage people to browse, socialise and linger in a car-free zone.
