"Action delivered on King Street gangmasters", claims Greg

This week, Greg Hands announced that he has been successful in his campaign for a dispersal zone to be set up around the newsagent’s shop on Ravenscourt Road.

The shop has become a magnet for large crowds of people, which doubles up as a work agency for hundreds of migrant workers. Many residents have contacted Greg over the past eight months, fed up with being unable to pass down the street, the increased litter levels from such large crowds and even finding people sleeping in their front gardens!

Following several meetings with local residents, dating back to September 2004, Greg wrote to local Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Heather Valentine, on 15th February 2005, requesting a dispersal zone be set up to stop the crowds gathering outside the shop.

At a meeting of the Ravenscourt Action Group on 23rd March 2005, it was confirmed that Greg’s request for the dispersal zone is to go ahead.

It was reported that the Police will start the procedures for setting the zone up immediately, so that it will be in place by June.

Commenting, Greg said: “I am very pleased that the Police have decided to set the dispersal zone up – and I hope this will be an end to the misery caused to so many people living around the Ravenscourt Road area.

“Naturally, I will continue to monitor the situation, but am hopeful that this could be a lasting solution.”
