Music for Youth has invited 'Got 2 Remember', a group of African drummers from Phoenix High School, in Shepherds Bush, to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth, Europe's largest youth music festival, on Monday 5 July 2004. The group is formed from the ongoing African drumming work which takes place during music curriculum and extra curriculum time.

Got 2 Remember is one of more than 20 projects at Phoenix High funded by the Phoenix Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (PNRP), which was set up at the school with regeneration funding from the government.

The group's performance is another opportunity for the drummers to play publicly, having recently performed outside the new BBC building at White City, and at various school events, including the PNRP Celebration Evening in March. Ten African drummers from the school will be playing ten minutes of material arranged by their tutor, Niles Hailestones.

Following their performances at 59 Music for Youth Regional Festivals this Spring, up to 300 groups of the nation's most talented and exciting young musicians and singers have been chosen to take part in this week-long celebration of their achievements.

The National Festival of Music for Youth, the largest Festival of its kind in Europe, takes place in London at the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and Purcell Room on the South Bank from 5 - 10 July. Groups performing include full symphony orchestras, choirs, brass, wind, jazz and rock bands, as well as ensembles of every shape and size.

Performance Awards are presented by the adjudicators during the Festival and 30 groups are subsequently invited to play at the Music for Youth Schools Proms on 8, 9 and 10 November at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
