As they celebrate 25 years of ground-breaking children's theatre productions this year, Oily Cart Theatre Company come to Lyric Hammersmith with If All the World Were Paper, a show for children aged 2 to 5 years - and their adult guests. It runs at the Lyric from 7 to 18 February.

"If all the world were paper
and all the seas were ink
And all the trees were bread and cheese
What would we have to drink?"

Inspired by the centuries-old nursery rhyme, we join 'Curlicue', 'Squiggle' and Doodle', two multi-talented performers and one musician who conjure up an enchanted world of paper and ink, taking us on a magical multi-sensory journey of discovery.

With a design inspired by Victorian paper theatre and comedy dell'arte costume, we are taken on trip from a paper house, sailing across inky waves full of fishes, mermaids and an octopus to a mulit-coloured island where a paper girl has some important lessons to learn about family and friendship.

Since 1981 Oily Cart has been taking its unique blend of theatre to children and young people throughout Britain. They use original scripts, precisely devised for specific audiences, and an array of theatrical techniques and styles from around the world. Oily Cart has pioneered work for two vital and often neglected audiences: the very young, and children and young people with severe learning disabilities.
