St Peter's Singers new concert




St Peter’s Singers are a choir of about 35 voices from many backgrounds. They rehearse on Tuesday evenings during school terms in St Peter’s Church Hammersmith, where they often give concerts. They have performed major works such as the Monteverdi Vespers in St James’s Piccadilly and have sung Masses in St Mark’s Venice and Notre Dame Paris where they gave the first performance of Bob Chilcott’s Pange Lingua which he dedicated to the choir. In 1997 they performed the Messiah in Moscow.

Live Music Now! Is the foremost outreach scheme in the United Kingdom.They are a charity who promote the enjoyment and experience of live music amongst people who would not normally have access to it, and assist gifted young professional musicians at the outset of their careers.

Susannah Simons began her career as a studio manager with BBC radio. She left to join Capital Radio which is where her career as a presenter began. She has subsequently presented PM, Today and The World at One for the BBC and Business Daily for Channel 4. In 1992 she became one of the original team at Classic FM presenting a daily two hour programme. Whilst at Classic FM she developed the 'Do More with Music' policy which included the hunt for the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year and Classic FM families, all events designed to extend the audience for Classical music. In 1999 she became Director of Communications for Classic FM's parent company GWR. She has recently left Classic FM to return to the BBC where she is now Head of Public Policy and Outreach for BBC Radio and Music.

Duncan Aspden was recently appointed as the Musical Director of the St Peter’s Singers. He is a professional conductor, organist and piano accompanist based in North London. As conductor he has directed choirs in many of Europe's greatest ecclesiastical buildings including St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Notre Dame in Paris and St. Paul's Cathedral. He is active as an organist and piano accompanist, and has appeared on BBC radio and TV.

Andrew Wells has been the rehearsal pianist for St. Peter’s Singers since 1987. He graduated at the London College of Music and also studied at Trinity College London. He plays for several choirs and has frequently been rehearsal pianist for the BBC Singers and Symphony Chorus. He was organist at St. Peter’s Hammersmith between 1987 and 1995 and is now organist of St. George’s Campden Hill.
