Plans have been submitted to turn a five-storey office building a short walk from the centre of Hammersmith into 118 new flats.
Savills, on behalf of its client Signal Resi Bidco 2 Limited, filed the application requesting the change of use for 200 Hammersmith Road.
Not far from Hammersmith Tube station, the building includes a Starbucks on its ground floor, which will not be affected by any potential changes.
It is also close to King Street, a key highway home to Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s major Civic Campus redevelopment set to include a cinema, bars, restaurants and hundreds of homes.
Online adverts indicate the Hammersmith Road site was being marketed as office space with the four upper floors listed as delivering approximately 60,000 square feet.
A covering letter accompanying the application however details the proposal to amend the use of the building and to instead allow for 118 flats.
The proposed development will be car-free, it continues, other than four blue badge parking spaces.
“130 long-stay cycle spaces will be provided as part of the proposals, comprising 8 accessible spaces, 58 Sheffield stands and 64 two-tier stands,” the letter states. “These will be located at the basement floor level. 4 short-stay cycle spaces will be provided at the rear of the site on the ground floor level.”
A Sheffield stand is a traditional three-sided staple-shaped bike rail embedded in the ground.
A transport statement prepared by Caneparo Associates and filed as part of the application found the proposal would result in a net reduction of 602 fewer trips in a typical day when compared against its current use.
Of the 118 proposed flats, 102 will be one-bed with 43.2 square metres of floor space, 13 will be slightly larger, with 55 sqm, while three will be two-bed.
The council has set an internal target to make a decision by 9 September.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council’s Civic Campus scheme is due to be completed later this year.
Once finished, the complex will include restaurants, rooftop bars, a cinema, arts and work spaces as well as the redeveloped town hall.
It is also delivering 204 new flats, 52 per cent of which are classed as affordable. These are already complete with residents moved in.
