85 children from all over London took part

85 children from all over London took part in Easter Holiday workshops at the Music House for Children in Shepherd’s Bush, last week.

Workshop leaders Claire Whitehead and Louise Doherty created a music, drama and art extravaganza with six to eleven-year-olds, culminating in a performance of their play with music ‘Dr G and the Bears’ in neighbouring Bush Hall.

“This was one of the best plays we’ve had: I was amazed at how well the music and drama worked together. Claire and Louise have a great understanding of each other, which helps enormously”, said Milla Wood, Education Support Manager at Music House.

Older children were able to emulate their pop idols, with two day-long Rock and Pop song writing workshops, led by Music House’s Director of Education Paula Steel, who regularly plays with her own rock band, Royal Treatment Plant.

Their day ended with a gig for parents at Bush Hall, on a stage that has previously hosted Alanis Morisette and REM.

Rebecca, 9, from Ealing said: “My favourite bit about this workshop is our song, because it’s really rocky. I like the way that Avril Lavigne does rocky songs and laidback songs.”

25 local children benefited from free places, subsidised by Hammersmith and Fulham council as part of its arts festival. Music House for Children is a not-for-profit organisation, founded by Emma Hutchinson in 1994; it is dedicated to providing music education for children.
