Care for older people in Hammersmith & Fulham has entered a new era, with two new facilities now open which replace the Goldhawk Road home for older people and provide extra facilities for older residents in the borough.
Mary Seacole House, a new extra-care facility which is just off Goldhawk Road, has 32 self contained retirement flats for people over 55.
It replaces the now decommissioned Goldhawk Road facility and offers independence in a modern environment with specially designed housing and 24 hour care and support.
“Mary Seacole House” is a joint project of the council, Hanover Housing Association and Care UK. It offers older people security, safety, support and companionship with the added advantage of retaining independence and privacy in self contained flats.
This new facility builds on the recent opening of the new 66-bed Farm Lane nursing home in Fulham, built by Care UK to provide care services under contract to London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and the PCT, as part of a drive to improve care for older people within the borough.
Councillor Reg McLaughlin, Hammersmith & Fulham Cabinet Member for social inclusion, said the new home was part of an ongoing programme of improvements to facilities for older people in the borough.
“We’re committed to creating comfortable places with professional staff to assist those who still want their independence and to live in their own home, but also need a helping hand sometimes.
“Our key goal is to enable people to live independently at home for as long as possible and we provide a great deal of assistance so they can do so. Where this isn’t possible, facilities like the Farm Lane nursing home will help make the transition into a homely care setting both easier and more comfortable for residents.”
Another nursing home is due to also open in the borough in the spring.
