Olympia Exhibition Centre held its first ever summer fete on Saturday 20 August 2005, raising in excess of £700 for local charity the Fulham Good Neighbour Service.
The aim of the event was to raise money for a local good cause, whilst bringing together people from the local community for some summer fun.
Jan Raphael of the Fulham Good Neighbour Service commented: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to the team at Olympia for putting on a fantastic day for local residents – everyone really enjoyed themselves. It’s very encouraging to see the community pulling together to raise such an impressive amount for the charity.”
The Fulham Good Neighbour Service works with local volunteers for the benefit of the Fulham community.
The fete was opened by Jilly Johnson, former top model and pop star (Blonde on Blonde) and concluded with the presentation of the star raffle prizes by Cllr. Charlie Treloggan, Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham. Recent Irish chart topper, Frank Lacey, entertained the fete-goers with lively Irish music which reflected the overall mood of the day.
Other local businesses, the Meridiana Restaurant and the London Marriott Hotel in Kensington, also entered into the community spirit by providing fabulous prizes for the raffle.
It is hoped that the Olympia Summer Fete will take place again next year.
