Doors thrown open in HF

Ever seen a building you'd really love to have a peek inside? You'll soon get the chance as properties across Hammersmith & Fulham throw back their doors as part of London's annual Open House weekend.

On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September you can visit one of 18 buildings in the borough, many of which are normally closed to the public.

Fancy a wander around the famous BBC Television Centre, including the Blue Peter garden - a must for all those who grew up watching Britain's
first celebrity gardener Percy Thrower tending to his marigolds? Or for a more historical day out, come and explore one of our 18th century buildings, the Hurlingham Club or the William Morris Society's Kelmscott House. If you're looking for something more contemporary, you could try
the Wood Lane Sports Pavilion or Latymer Arts Centre.

Councillor Michael Cartwright, cabinet member for environment, said: "This is a great chance to  see inside 18 buildings, most of which would be closed to you any other day of the year. Over 600 buildings are opening their doors across London, turning the capital into an entirely
free, living architectural exhibition. We're lucky to have so many Open House venues to visit within the borough - there's a great selection of places to see without even leaving the borough."

Hammersmith & Fulham council has produced a handy sized map and transport guide to the borough and open house venues, encouraging people to see the local area via public transport, cycling or walking.

The council supports the Good Going travel awareness week from 14-24 September, which aims to encourage greater use of these sustainable means of transport instead of the car. If you are travelling to an Open House venue, why not take the healthy and environmentally friendly
option and walk, cycle or take public tranport rather than drive?
