The Council have finally given in on their long running refusal and have agreed to consider match day only restrictions thanks to pressure from local residents and businesses in conjunction with the Conservatives.
Hammersmith & Fulham Conservatives consider it a victory and a major breakthrough.
Commenting, Conservative Environment Spokesman, Cllr Nicholas Botterill said: “It is obvious that if only 16 Saturdays a year have Chelsea FC matches, then it is ridiculous to penalise residents and businesses every single Saturday.”
The recent consultation on parking in zones Q & R, which saw some 2213 returns, also demonstrated opposition to continued parking restrictions between 6.30pm and 8.00pm – which the Council has also agreed to stop.
Conservative Planning Spokesman, Cllr Frances Stainton, added: “The consultation demonstrated that residents do not like the present restrictions. In light of this the present scheme will be stopped and there will be return to the previous restricted hours.
“With match day only restrictions now being looked at, Conservatives believe this is the best way forward - and the scheme will, of course, be reviewed after a six month trial period.
“Perfection is unlikely to be obtained on parking restrictions, but Conservatives will continue to fight to get the least harmful and the most beneficial scheme for all. As the only Borough in London with three football stadiums it is a big step forward now Labour has dropped their opposition to considering match day only restrictions.”
