Restrictions for the zones Q & R block business visitors from parking
This week, Councillor Greg Hands was lobbied by businesses in and around the Wandsworth Bridge Road, New Kings Road and Parsons Green Lane area, regarding the Council’s parking experiment in Zones Q & R, at a meeting at Il Pagliaccio restaurant this week.
The experiment, started in September, consists of new restrictions for the zones, essentially blocking all business visitors from parking at all on the roads between 6.30pm and 8.00pm on weekdays and between 3.00pm and 4.00pm and 6.30pm and 8.00pm on Saturdays.
16 businesses were represented at the meeting, including Il Pagliaccio restaurant, Tootsies restaurant, La Strada restaurant, the Andrew Robson Bridge Club, Criterion Tiles, Starbucks, Pine Mine furniture, Elizabeth King grocers and Francois Michel hairdressers.
All of these businesses are furious with the Council’s new scheme, and some say business has fallen up to 70% on a like-for-like basis. Greg was lobbied hard and listened to the concerns and vowed to support them in seeking improvements to the parking régimes in Q and R.
In particular, a large-scale petition is being drawn up by the businesses, which Greg will present to the Council when complete.
Commenting, Greg said: "The new parking regulations are clearly causing great distress to local businesses and I was extremely shocked to hear how badly they are being affected.
“I have promised to work with the businesses, as well as local residents, to ensure that we have the best possible parking system for all.”
