Brackenbury Road and Fulham Palace Road branches are in the list
Cllr Greg Hands has hit out at the Government today, as two Hammersmith & Fulham Post Offices have been named to close by the end of March.
The Fulham Palace Road (SW6) and Brackenbury Road (W6) Post Offices are to close within weeks, a report in today’s Guardian (06-01-2005) has revealed. The closures are also reported to have been sanctioned by Labour Ministers in the Department of Trade & Industry.
Commenting, Greg said: “This is the nightmare scenario many Hammersmith & Fulham residents have feared. Yet more cuts to our already diminished Post Office network will leave thousands of people with no local post office, which will particularly hit pensioners hard.
“This Labour Government should be ashamed of itself for robbing local people of services that many of them rely upon on a daily or weekly basis.”
“The W14 area is already only served by one sub-Post Office, run by an elderly couple struggling to cope. If the Post Office and their Government masters continue at this rate, soon we’ll have no sub-Post Offices left at all.
“I want to see action to save our sub-Post Offices from closure. It would be nice if that lead could come from Government, but unfortunately, they’re the ones sanctioning the cuts.”
