condemns Labour over Post Office destruction programme Hammersmith & Fulham Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, Cllr Greg Hands, is furious that the W14 postal area is being forced by Labour to survive with just one sub-Post Office. The area, which is home to roughly 48,000 people, has seen two post offices closed in the past 18 months, on North End Road and Richmond Way and the remaining sub-Post Office is staffed by one elderly couple. Greg Hands has said: "The Post Office and their Department of Trade & Industry masters are systematically closing our local post offices - this cannot be allowed to continue. "One sub-Post Office to service 34,000 people is ridiculous and it is entirely the fault of the Labour Government. It is no wonder we have a third class post in Hammersmith & Fulham. "Thousands of elderly people rely on sub-Post Offices for their pensions - not to mention the other services offered. One branch, run by one elderly couple simply isn't enough. The Blythe Road Post Office does a wonderful job given the circumstances, but to burden them with all of W14 just isn't fair. "I want to see action from the Government that will solve the problem. All I am seeing is more and more cuts." |
