Watchdog group concerned about closure of GP practice at Milson Road

1,000 patients will have to go through the process of re-registration

The Patients Forum for Hammersmith and Fulham has published a statement about the closure of GP services at Milson Road.

"Members of a health watchdog group say they are deeply concerned that vulnerable patients may suffer as a result of a cost cutting exercise by Hammersmith & Fulham PCT who have decided not to replace the GP practice based at the Milson Road Health Centre.

The PPI Forum for Primary Care in Hammersmith and Fulham will be seeking assurances from the PCT over possible cutbacks in services at the Milson Road Health Centre.

Hammersmith PPI forum member Muj Khan said " We fear that front-line services to the most vulnerable members our community will be affected and will be seeking assurances from the PCT that rather than cutting services they should be giving urgent consideration to ensuring a larger GP practice be set up at Milson Rd after a desperately needed modernisation of the building.

Furthermore, the forum is extremely disappointed and regrets that the PCT has decided to pursue the option of dispersing the patients to a number of so called "local" practices without consulting the forum or the local community."

Sinclair Road Residents' Association (SRRA) has published in its newsletter the statement from the Hammersmith & Fulham NHS Primary Care Trust, dated 26 September, which we reproduce below.

'The general practice at Milson Road is owned by Dr. Oshodi, who has retired
following a period of ill-health.

The practice was being covered by locum doctors, but now Dr Oshodi has
formally retired we have to ask his patients to re-register with another
surgery in the area, We realise this will be unwelcome news for many
patients and we apologise for the inconvenience.

Locally there are 6 other practices which Dr Oshodi's patients can choose
from. All patients have been written to with details of the alternative
surgeries. If anyone has difficulty re-registering they can contact the
Primary Care Trust on 020 8846 6766'.

SRRA has been told than no less than 1,000 patients will have to go through
the process of re-registration. A petition against against the practice's closure is currently held at the vantage Pharmacy, 67 Blythe Road. SRRA has also published a list of six alternative practices:
