Whilst recycling rates in Hammersmith & Fulham have almost doubled since the launch of the Smart Sack, there is still an incredible 4.4 million tonnes of rubbish sent to landfill every year by Londoners.

Jim Fielder, Waste Watch Campaign Manager, says that London Sustainability Weeks is the perfect time for residents to contribute to the big clean up. He's challenging everyone to make one small change to help reduce the amount of rubbish they produce. Jim says, "If everyone takes up at least one of these challenges it will make a massive difference."

The challenge is to try one of these:

1. Refuse plastic bags for two weeks
2. Recycle something you might not think to recycle - such as empty aerosols, paper and card food packaging or glass food jars
3. Take your half used tins of paint to Smuggler's Way reuse and recycling centre - then charities and voluntary organisations will be able to use them
4. Make a waste-free lunch by taking your sandwiches to work in a reusable plastic container.
