St Paul’s Girls’ School in newspaper competition

This week, local Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman, Cllr Greg Hands, took part in an interview by Sixth-Form pupils at St Paul’s Girls’ School. The interview will form part of a specially produced school-newspaper that will be entered into a national competition being run by The Times.

Conducted at the Brook Green based school, the interview covered a wide-range of issues, from Greg’s local priorities to engaging young people with politics and combating voter apathy.

Commenting, Greg said: “It was a great pleasure to have been able to take part in this very exciting project – and I wish all of the pupils involved the very best of luck in the competition.”

“Both girls conducted the interview very professionally – and I am sure they have very promising careers in journalism ahead of them, if that is what they chose to go in to!

“Voter apathy, particularly among younger people is an extremely serious threat to our democracy – and I hope projects such as this newspaper competition will help engage first time voters with the political process.”
