Street parking increases 14%

It now costs £1.60 an hour

From this week, around the Borough, street parking now costs £1.60 an hour or 80p for half an hour, marking an increase of 20p (14%). This increase is part of a long line of increases for parking, with charges increasing from 60p an hour four years ago to £1.60 today – almost a three-fold increase. The Council have also increased residents parking permits from £50 a year, to £90 in two years, with further rises planned.

Hammersmith & Fulham Conservative Candidate, Greg Hands, has hit out at the local Council this week, as extortionate new pay and display parking charges come into force.

Commenting, Greg said: “If the Council were a private company, it would be investigated by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission!”

“I believe the current system is stacked against residents and local businesses, in favour of simply extracting money. I want to see a more resident-friendly system, but also one that supports our local businesses, and stop the endless inflation-busting price hikes for permits and pay & display. “

“In short, we need a parking system that helps people, not just charges them.”
