Council's activities for the last few weeks of the summer holidays

With just under three weeks of school holidays left and kids running out of things to do, the council has an answer ... on the number 22 bus!

It's an environmental treasure trail - a fun map packed with the locations of distinctive landmarks and tree varieties that parents can turn into an entertaining and educational quiz.

Will they be able to spot Catherine of Aragon's house in Parsons Green or the remains of the Fulham Pottery (1672)? Will they recognise the
road built for a king's private enjoyment? They'll have loads of fun spotting the homes built by architect Jimmy Nicholls. (Tip - you might find this task easier if you travel on the top deck: his motifs are all on the roofs).

There are 13 different varieties of tree on the 22 bus route - and their distinctive leaves are all on the free colour leaflet, so parents can encourage their children to spot them all. There are plenty of places to stop for an ice cream - a treat for whoever correctly identifies the
most tree varieties? (Tip - you will have to stop at least three times to identify all the trees, as they are concentrated in All Saints Churchyard, Fulham; Parson's Green ands Eel Brook Common. But they can still all be recognised from the street - or the bus.)

The free leaflets were designed by children from Holy Cross Primary School with help from Hammersmith & Fulham Urban Studies Centre for the Flora of Fulham project.

In a novel twist, passengers on the number 22 can help the council to plant even more native varieties of tree by nominating suitable sites. Entrants will be invited to a special planting ceremony during Tree Week at the end of November. Email suggestions to   stephen.mcandrews@lbhf.gov.uk.
