Nirjay Mahindru was alerted to a dossier of interviews from prisoners in Guantanamo Bay via the journalist Vikram Dodd. Based on this extensive research, The Hot Zone is a new play that explores the fictitious story of three British Asians detained in an international detention centre. The Hot Zone will premiere at The Lyric Hammersmith from 11th – 15th Oct, following previews at The Brady Centre (6th – 8th October) and will then play at The Warehouse Theatre, Croydon (18th – 23rd October).

Iqbal, Waris and Sonny were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They are now incarcerated in a international prison camp. The British Intelligence Officer has many answers she needs to get out of them and will go to any length to get the response she needs. As the effects of the mind games and psychological torture set in, the three prisoners struggle with the truth about themselves, their fellow captives and the charges against them.

Dark, funny and disturbing, The Hot Zone is a new play that offers contemporary insight into our perceptions of national and religious identity within the context of modern day counter terrorism.

Conspirators Kitchen was launched in 2002 by Nirjay Mahindru to give voice to cutting edge
Asian playwrights and to produce new work that investigates contemporary British Asian
experience. Their first production was a popular black comedy The Bottle written by Nirjay
Mahindru, presented at Watermans and The Brady Arts Centre.

Nirjay Mahindru is an actor, writer and producer. His writing includes team –writing for Silver
Street, the new Asian Soap for the BBC Digital Asian Network, The Passion Of Hungry Men for
the BBC's Text to TX scheme, Felling the Cedar Mountain, winner of the Critical Stage Playwriting Competition, Mangradora, King of India which toured nationally in 2004 and Shah Mat, or The King is Dead at South Streets Arts Centre for Writernet’s Hydroponic Showcase. The Bottle and Mangadora King of India are both published by Oberon Books.
