THE PINK BITS is coming to the Riverside Studios from 22nd November – 11th December. This prize-winning exploration of power and accountability is created by MAPPING4D, a young company with a growing reputation for creating charged and inventive environmental theatre events.

In a school classroom, a history lesson is in progress and the mystery of a massacre unravels. But the teacher is in crisis and with control slipping fast, lesson and massacre become one. Myths, battles, empires and histories collide with the present, as the classroom becomes military briefing room, battleground and execution chamber. Seated at desks, the audience is part of the class, witnesses, increasingly complicit in old wounds, awkward questions and damn lies.

Selected by a distinguished panel of judges THE PINK BITS is the winner of The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award 2004. The largest award of its kind, the OSBTTA supports bold, challenging and innovative productions from emerging practitioners.

Mapping4D works as a collective: interweaving design and devising to create rich, immersive and experimental theatre. Working with imagination, wit and rigour, the company makes performance that explores the rituals and complexities that underpin our society. Mapping4D aims to develop work that fully exploits the liveness of the theatre medium, and to focus on catalysing dynamic and unfamiliar relationships between the performance and the audience; translating difficult debates into new performative languages to create a theatre of sensations, ideas and no easy answers.

Their previous work includes Little English (Versions 1 and 2) - an installational theatre event exploring nation, culture and the space that 'belonging' occupies in our sense of identity; Vertigo, a playful study of absurdity, vulnerability and control, combining cabaret and a lecture on the structures of reality and Lost in Peru; a collaboration with writer Benjamin Yeoh, exploring the responsibilities of a collective of Western artists engaging with the true statements of torture victims in a theatre
