Residents to be asked to suggest title reflecting borough's equality and diversity
Hammersmith & Fulham Council is planning to change the name of Hammersmith's most famous street.
The Labour administration at the Town Hall is proposing changing what it calls the "elitist" title of King Street to a name which better reflects Labour's origins and our borough's equality and diversity - and are planning to ask local residents for suggestions.
Among initial suggestions are Keir Hardie Street, Atlee Avenue and Wilson Way.
The new Malaysian pension fund which recently bought shopping centre Kings Mall will also be changing the centre's name along with its surroundings.
Once the new name is decided, the changeover, with new streets signs installed from Hammersmith Broadway to the Chiswick border is expected to take place at the same time as the regeneration of the area around Town Hall, which is scheduled to begin later this year.
