Amy Shuckburgh’s new exhibition Ravenscourt Park: Seasons of Light opens at The Curtis Building on Thursday 4 December. It offers a deeply personal series of paintings and drawings inspired by the park she has known all her life. The show runs until 17 December, with works displayed in the ground floor space overlooking the park itself.
The exhibition brings together a collection of landscapes that capture the shifting moods and atmospheres of Ravenscourt Park across the seasons. The artist’s expressive brushwork and use of colour evoke both constancy and change, reflecting the park as a sanctuary and social hub. Though her canvases rarely depict figures, the energy of passers-by is suggested through movement in her marks and tonal variations. For local residents, the series resonates with shared familiarity, while visitors unfamiliar with the park will find universal themes of light, rhythm, and renewal.
The Curtis Building, a historic site on Paddenswick Road, provides a fitting backdrop. Its ground floor gallery space looks directly onto the park, allowing viewers to experience the paintings in dialogue with the landscape itself. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm, and Saturdays 10am–3pm, until 17 December.
Amy Shuckburgh is a London-based artist of Cornish heritage, known for her landscapes, still life, and figurative work in soft pastel and oil paint. Her practice is characterised by loose, expressive mark-making and vibrant use of colour. She trained at L’École des Beaux Arts in Paris, the Slade School of Fine Art, the Royal Drawing School in London, and the St Ives School of Painting in Cornwall.
He work often explores themes of place, belonging, and motherhood. Her acclaimed Motherhood series, which won the Heatherley’s Drawing Award in 2019, depicts the realities of caregiving with raw honesty, portraying women’s strength and vulnerability without idealisation. She has also documented the historic Hammersmith studio of artists Mary Fedden and Julian Trevelyan, producing drawings of the site before its renovation.
