West London’s airwaves are about to get louder, livelier and a lot more local. From 1 July, Slim Radio — the independent dance music station built by DJs, music lovers and creatives — will launch on DAB digital radio across West London and surrounding areas, bringing underground sounds and real radio culture back to the dial.
The station, which began life online, has quickly earned a reputation for championing the full spectrum of dance music: House, Soul, R&B, Disco, Jazz Funk, Drum & Bass and Rare Groove. Its 24-hour schedule is entirely DJ-led, with live shows, specialist sets and a roster of presenters steeped in West London’s club and pirate radio heritage.
Co-founder Derek Walton says Slim Radio fills a gap left by increasingly automated, playlist-driven stations. “West London has always had music, diversity and creativity running through it, but there’s been a real gap for a local dance music station that reflects that energy properly,” he explains. “Slim Radio is about giving DJs a platform, giving listeners a station they can feel part of, and keeping proper radio alive.”
The move to DAB means Slim Radio will now reach listeners in cars, homes and workplaces across this part of London offering a fresh alternative to mainstream radio. It also opens new opportunities for local venues, advertisers and community partners to connect with an engaged audience.
As small-scale digital broadcasting continues to give independent voices more space, Slim Radio’s arrival marks a new chapter for West London radio — one powered by passion, community and the enduring spirit of underground music.
