Consultation on Riverside Open Space
Richmond Council is inviting the public to put forward its views on plans for local open spaces and the riverside in Kew, Mortlake and Barnes.
When: Saturday
March 6th from midday to 4.00 pm
Where: Powerstation Youth Club, Mortlake High Street.
Wheelchair
access is provided. Everyone is welcome and a kids� corner and refreshments
will be available.
This is the first of a series of drop in sessions on Richmond�s open spaces
strategy to help the Council develop its improvement plan for local parks,
open spaces and the riverside.
On display will be the Tow Path Audit from Kew Bridge to Beverley Brook which has recently been completed by the Tow Path Group of the Environment Trust for Richmond on Thames with the help of voluntary groups along the River. This is the first stage towards a management plan for the wooded Tow Path as outlined in the Thames Strategy-Kew to Chelsea.
The Tow Path is important to residents on both sides of the river not only as a part of the Thames Path and a nature conservation area but because of its contribution to the outstanding views from Strand on the Green, Chiswick and Hammersmith Malls.
Angela Kidner, Chair of the Environment Trust said : �The Environment Trust is committed to promoting the understanding and enjoyment of the River and its paths as well as the conservation and maintenance of its unique natural features throughout the Borough of Richmond. The Tow Path Audit is a demonstration of the benefits that can be achieved by local groups working in partnership to help the Local Authority to develop strategies for the management of this wonderful but demanding natural asset.�
Roger Weston, Chair of the Thames Strategy said: �The Thames Strategy - Kew to Chelsea recognised the importance of the Tow Path and listed a number of projects associated with it including a management plan for the Tow Path and improvements to associated open spaces such as Jubilee Gardens and the access points to the River: Bull�s Alley Drawdock , Ship lane Drawdock and Small Profit Dock�
Local Groups have put a huge amount of work into the first �Tow Path Audit�. The Audit includes maps, photographs and lists actual key features. This consultation event provides a chance for the public to comment on what needs to be done to help conserve the Tow Path and identify future projects along the Tow Path between Kew Bridge and Beverley Brook.
