£18million school building opens in Wood Lane

Ed Balls tries out Stanley Fink building

A new £18million school building was opened at the Burlington Danes Academy last week by Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls.

The academy in Wood Lane now boasts a new sports centre, and a performing arts centre, called the Stanley Fink building, as well as refurbished buildings.

Principal of Burlington Danes, Sally Coates, said: “In September 2009 we will expand to include a sixth form, offering a wide range of academic and vocational courses.

“These are exciting times at Burlington Danes.  Student achievement is now in line with the national average.

"In August 2008 44 per cent of our students gained 5 A*-C grades in their GCSEs, including English and Math and we expect a significant improvement on this in 2009.”

MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherds Bush, Andy Slaughter said: “The £18million is a small part of the £120million provided by the Government to rebuild, renew or expand every secondary school

in Hammersmith and Fulham, representing the biggest investment in education ever seen in the borough."
