Free coaching event featuring Fatima Whitbread MBE, Greg Rutherford and John Herbert
The Linford Christie Stadium in Du Cane Road W12 will host a very special event on Tuesday 14 August 2007 11am – 6pm.
The London Coaching Foundation’s Community ‘Have a Go’ day at The Linford Christie Stadium will give members of the community opportunity for them to train with some of the most well known names in the sport.
Throughout the action packed event, children are given the chance to try a number of different Olympic events; Javelin, discus, sprints, jumps, hurdles and shot putt.
Training sessions on the athletics disciplines are held during the day by Fatima Whitbread MBE and European Long Jump Silver Medalist Greg Rutherford and a team of coaches. The event also gives club coaches the chance to work along side experts from the London Coaching Foundation and learn new skills and techniques.
And Adults, Mums and Dads can join in too with a number of Open Age Competitions including a Community Citizens event for 40-55 year olds!
The day is sponsored by Pro – Active, Street Athletics, Sport England and supported by The Linford Christie.
Event organiser and four time Olympian John Herbert said, "Thanks to the sponsorship of Pro-Active and Sport England the chance of new young people trying athletics for the first time will give a unique opportunity for young people from across the region to have exclusive training advice at a first class venue from well known sports people.”
The London Coaching Foundation is a Charitable Trust (No.1001103) set up in 1990. The aim then was to encourage young people from all over London to participate in Track and Field athletics regardless of ability, sex, race or social background. The LCF works at the grass roots level by sending qualified coaches / international athletes into schools and colleges to work alongside PE Staff to coach track and field athletics.
