London Bubble Theatre present a unique live performance

London Bubble Theatre Company's new adaptation of Alice Through the Looking Glass will be performed in Gunnersbury Park on the 3rd and 4th of August.

London Bubble's style of promenade performance takes the audience on a journey through the story by tracing a route around the park, very different to sedentary open-air theatre. Each scene takes place in a different part of the park's environment, bringing its hidden recesses, familiar clearings and unique features to imaginative life. Live music and visual effects accompany the performers as they lead the audience from scene to scene as darkness falls.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of our best-loved stories. Written by Lewis Carroll in 1872, its surreal content, unusual word-play and love of nonsense fascinates people of all ages, encouraging its enduring popularity. Along with Alice In Wonderland, it revolutionised children's literature, allowing it to become fun as well as instructive.

London Bubble's production of Alice Through the Looking Glass invites the audience to enter a world where nothing is quite as it seems - where flowers talk, but they could be friendlier; where the creatures you meet squabble, and tell you strange stories about giant monsters. Dream and reality become one, in a magical theatre experience.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is adapted and directed by Jonathan Petherbridge. Artistic Director of London Bubble, he is an expert practitioner of promenade theatre, initiating in 1989 the now established annual promenades created by the Dukes Playhouse Lancaster. His touring theatre projects include work for Royal National Theatre, Riverside Studios, and Theatre Clwyd.

Becky Hurst designs Alice Through the Looking Glass. She is resident designer for Cartoon de Salvo, and has designed productions for Manchester Royal Exchange, Bristol New Vic Studio & The Queen Elizabeth Hall. She was Assistant Designer for The Wrestling School’s recent production of Howard Barker's 13 0bjects.

The actors, in collaboration with London Bubble's education staff, will deliver workshops for children before the performances. For 3 to 6 year olds Make, Show & Play incorporates prop-making and storytelling; in Watch, Track & Solve 6 to 9 year olds will perform exciting tasks to complete an adventure.
