The Festive Fun River Run returns to offer a seasonal gathering along the Thames for residents and visitors of all ages.

The event, on Sunday 7 December, begins at 9am outside Riverside Studios and features a relaxed 7km route between Hammersmith and Putney Bridges. Participants are invited to run, jog, or walk in festive attire, with informal prizes awarded for creativity and spirit—including for canine companions.

This community event is organised by Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC), a local charity that uses access to rowing as a tool for social change. Proceeds from the River Run will support FRBC’s year-round programmes, which include:

  • Youth outreach : FRBC works with state schools across Hammersmith and Fulham to offer free rowing sessions, helping young people build confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
  • Reducing reoffending : Through its Boats Not Bars initiative, FRBC provides structured rowing programmes for individuals in custody and post-release, supporting rehabilitation and reintegration.
  • Inclusive access : The club runs adaptive rowing sessions for people with disabilities and offers subsidised memberships to ensure financial barriers do not prevent participation.
  • Community cohesion : FRBC fosters a welcoming environment on the river, encouraging intergenerational engagement and environmental stewardship through clean-up events and local partnerships.

The River Run is untimed and open to all, with refreshments, music, and festive activities available throughout the morning.

Participants can book, volunteer, or learn more via the event registration page.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.
