St. Peter's Holds First Summer Festival

A week of music, worship and art in Black Lion Lane

The people of St Peter’s are a diverse community who have successfully raised half a million pounds in two years in order to pay for a new roof. This was a tremendous fund raising feat in itself but laid the foundations of a community who now live and work together, providing friendship, worship and outreach to young families, the elderly, the well off and the not so well off.

For the first time for a number of years they are planning to hold a Summer Festival, a full week of music, worship and art.

On June 26th the week starts off with the ordination of a new curate and a special Festival Eucharist at 10.30. The church choir will be joined by the St Peter’s Singers to sing Joseph Haydn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai.

On Monday June 27th at 7pm an exciting exhibition by local artists opens it doors with a short recital of songs, arias and gentle music for the oboe. Entrance is free and the exhibition will be open throughout the week during the evening performances and at the weekend. On Tuesday, the talented Director of Music, Edward Wellman, will give an organ recital which will include music by English composers; Elgar and Percy Whitlock together with the orchestral sounds of the French composers for organ, Alexandre Guilmant and Charles-Marie Widor.

On Thursday June 30th at 8.00 pm they offer a sparkling and entertaining evening of Verdi,. Mozart, Sondheim and the Andrew sisters. Matilde Wallevik, their very own international mezzo soprano, regularly found at the Royal Opera House teams up with sopranos Caroline Childe and Chloe Wright for a dazzling evening of song.

There is fun for all the family at a Craft Fair on July 2nd with a variety of handicrafts and displays which is open from 2pm and the week concludes with a Jazz and spiritual style Eucharist on Sunday July 3rd at 10.30am.

The week offers music and quiet moments for contemplation; attractive and affordable art by the many professional and non professional local artists; worship and praise at a variety of services and a warm welcome.
