William Morris Society Launches Weekly Guided Tours
A chance to explore Kelmscott House and its displays with an expert

The William Morris Society in Hammersmith is opening its doors in a new way this summer, announcing the launch of a weekly guided tour. The aim is to bring visitors closer to the life, ideas and craftsmanship of one of Britain’s most influential cultural figures. Beginning on Friday 21 August, the tours will run every Friday from 10am to 11am at the Society’s home on Upper Mall.
Led by expert guides, the sessions invite visitors to step inside the world of William Morris, exploring the history of Kelmscott House, the development of Morris & Co., and the creative and political ideas that shaped the Arts and Crafts movement. The tour also shines a spotlight on May Morris, whose pioneering work in embroidery and her leadership within the Women’s Guild of Arts helped define the movement’s legacy.
One of the highlights of the experience is the chance to see one of Morris’s original printing presses up close. Guides will explain the techniques and craftsmanship behind Morris’s iconic designs, offering visitors a deeper understanding of the processes that made his work so distinctive.
Each weekly session includes a one-hour guided tour, followed by a dedicated question-and-answer period with the guide. Visitors are then welcome to explore the museum independently, taking time to enjoy the collections, displays and the atmosphere of Kelmscott House at their own pace.
The tours take place at The William Morris Society, 26 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, W6 9TA, and tickets cost £12.

The William Morris Society exists to make better known the life, work and ideas of William Morris, designer, craftsman, poet and socialist. The Society’s premises are in the Coach House and basement of Kelmscott House, Morris’s Hammersmith home for the last 18 years of his life.
